Microcontroller Based Capacitance Meter

چکیده

A microcontroller based capacitance meter using 89C52 microcontroller for the measurement of capacitance has been design and developed. It is based on the principle of charging and discharging of the capacitor. Atmel’s AT89C52 microcontroller is used in the present study. Further, an LCD module is interfaced with the microcontroller in 4-bit mode, which reduces the hardware complexity. Software is developed in C using Kiel’s C-cross compiler. The instrument system covers a range 1pF to 1000μF. The paper deals with the hardware and software details. This instrument has auto range selection and auto calibration facility i.e., auto reset facility. This instrument is provided with 400-value storage capacity. The system is quite successful in the measurement of capacitance with an accuracy of ±1 % and capacitance of whole construction is around 10 pF. The power consumption is less than 1W.
